Thank you for such thoughtful and evocative exercises and thank you for your very generous sharing. As each day goes by, I feel like I’m peeling back onion layers to my soul, getting closer and closer to being a real writer.Chris
About the Challenge
Where do we start when we want to write?
How about right here?
I designed this 7 Day FREE Writing Challenge for people just like you who have always wanted to write but don’t know where or how to begin the journey.
I offer this challenge only twice a year. Over 7 days, I share a video tutorial of a secret writing trick that will ignite your creativity and open up the possibilities your writing offers you. Each video is accompanied by a writing exercise. You will be invited into a vibrant Facebook community where every day, I will answer your questions by Facebook Live.
Why you should do this challenge
Everyone has the need to be seen and heard. We all have something to offer the world.
Writing is one of the best ways I know to find our voice.
To get to where we want to go, we need a path. We need to be shown the first steps.
This writing challenge is to share those first steps with you.
Pipping at the post my graduation from Theatre School at the age of 36, the 7 Day Writing Challenge with Joanne Fedler, 14 years down the line, is the most delicious embrace I have ever given my own soul. I am radiating like a lover, fresh from a dirty weekend. I cannot lie…this has been sexyJacquie
Νever thought it would be like this. Feels like I’m going home. Small steps back to myself. ThanksZaklin
Amazing challenge, I will go away from this challenge with great tools to work on my ideas. Thank you so much, I needed these tools. It’s the gift that just keeps on giving.Barbara
It appears that this gift that you offered out into the universe a week ago is much, much bigger than you ever dreamed. A way for people to drop down into themselves. A path towards enlightenment. A chance to start healing. The Pen is mightier than the sword. Lives will be savedSally
What you’ll get out of it
Bonus points if you:
- learn something new about how writers do it;
- write something you never thought you could;
- have fun (without drugs or alchohol);
- connect with other writers doing the challenge
and stand the chance to win a huge prize at the end of the challenge which could be your first step to getting published with Joanne Fedler Media.
How to get the most out of the challenge:
commit to the 7 days, no matter what;
block off half an hour each day to watch the video and complete the writing exercise;
leave a comment in the comment box or share your writing with us.
My goal is to learn how to write with descriptive clarity, drawing the reader into the story. Through this process, Joanne, you’ve made me aware I can do just that. I have much more to learn. Participating in this challenge has shown me it’s doable. Thank you.Bev
Share the love
Please share this writing challenge generously – on social media, by email, by word-of-mouth. Pass it on to that friend who’s always saying, ‘I want to write,’ or to your grandfather who wants to get his lifestory down. Maybe you know someone who isn’t in a financial position to afford writing courses, classes or a mentor, but they’ve got a story to tell.
This is for you.
This is for them.
This is for everyone.
I’m an internationally bestselling author of ten books, inspirational speaker and writing mentor. I’ve had books published in just about every genre- fiction, non-fiction, self-help, memoir – by some of the top publishing houses in the world. My books have sold over 650 000 copies and have been translated into a range of languages. Two of my books have been #1 Amazon bestsellers, and at one point the German edition of Secret Mothers’ Business outsold Harry Potter- crazy, right?
Each year I run free 7-day writing challenges, followed by my transformational 8 week Author Awakening Adventure.
At heart, I am a teacher. Each year I take a small group of aspiring authors on a writing retreat to Fiji, Bali or Tuscany. Learn more about my Writing Retreats here: www.joannefedlerwritingretreats.com
In 2016 I launched my WINGS programme (words inspire, nourish and grow the spirit). I am currently working closely with 18 aspiring authors in my Author Liftoff programme to nurture them to publication.
“What a liberating 7 days! I am so grateful and inspired by your time and willingness to share your gift, Joanne. The prompts gifted to us today resonated perfectly, together with articulating how I am going to make a difference has my belly burning. Everything is so much clearer now! I have learned so much in this 7 days, particularly around my use of adjectives and I may have finished my application with a cliche, sorry – THANK YOU so much. This is exactly what I needed and more.” – LisaLisa
“Your exercises are so well conceptualized and presented. Thank you for not making any of it overwhelming and yet managing to convey details and big-picture perspectives at the same time. I appreciate how you balance both analytical and emotional input. I’m grateful for your generosity.” – MaryMary
“Thank you, thank you.This has been an incredible journey,and for me, it’s a rebirth of what was buried so long ago,deep deep inside me.” – SallySally
“It blows my mind how generous you are with your time and energy in these groups, Joanne.” – MeganMegan
“Thank you so much, Joanne, for this week of productive exercises and fabulous inspiration. I’m a former teacher and principal, and I know good teaching. You, my dear, are a most amazing teacher. I have so appreciated the design of this 7-day challenge, and your delivery throughout. I look forward to working with you again.” – LorieLorie
“Heartfelt thanks for your warmth, sincerity and generosity, Joanne. I have gained a great deal more than writing skills from this week with you.” – MeganMegan
“Guidance from the video presentations has already helped current projects and my feedback group. ‘Don’t write about a feeling, write from a feeling’ is helping strengthen a scene I’d abandoned until exploring it in the ‘paradoxes’ exercise. The advice on never naming a feeling really makes a writer flex his descriptive muscles. So does the advice on not relying on adjectives and adverbs. I saw both those things in my own work and in my feedback group this week; and I was equipped to not only understand why they felt weak, but how to strengthen them. My group had an especially good discussion about an adjective-laden character description, which helped the author gain more insight into the character, and how to communicate her state of mind and relationship to her body through clothing choices rather than mundane adjectives.” – MatthewMatthew
“Thank you and thank you again for your amazing heart. Thank you for having this seven days of the writing challenge. It has inspired me and helped me center and focus. Much love to you. Wanting to buy your books too! Thank you, Joanne and crew.” – MaryMary
“So enjoying your exercises and prompts. You’re giving me a way to write about emotions, strengthened my resolve to progress. I need to get honest again about what matters to me – my feelings, emotions, desires; unexpressed emotions cause illness and we are controlled very much by socially accepted norms which are just wrong and contradictory to health and happiness (in my opinion). Thank you, thank you, thank you. I have thoroughly enjoyed this last week with you.” – ColleenColleen
“Thank you, Joanne. I have been enriched by these 7 days!” – TraceyTracey
“The words just flowed onto the page and it has turned out too long perhaps to share – but a lot wanted to flow out, so I let it do so using all the topics..I just want to thank you Joanne for the wonderful opportunity to take part in this challenge. It has helped enormously to open up more of my creativity for writing.” – DiDi
“You’re brilliant. Thank you for this wonderful 7 days and creating this circle. I have had an affair with words and absolute brilliant time.” – AmritAmrit
“Thank you for this opportunity, Joanne. After a 2 year hiatus, I am finally allowing myself to write again.” – SineSine
“I’m going to say thank you for all of your guidance this week. I have been blocked for 10 years and there is light for my writing now. I believe this to be my last obstacle and in sharing, I am set free. I am grateful to you for this.” – HeatherHeather
“Thank you from the depths of my soul. Your eloquent writing wisdom combined with your generous personal support inspires me – as a writer and as a person.” – NancyNancy
“Thank you for holding this space and creating safe boundaries in the group.” – Katya
“So when I speak of my rekindled love affair I am filled with gratitude beyond my soul. This was more than a gift, more than a 7 day challenge – this was the light that led me back to my pure self.
Thank you Joanne for you elegance and eloquence, your wisdom and genius, your support and compassion, your honest feedback and cute gifs, your commitment to making this a safe experience for all and most of all your true generosity of spirit. You are a wonderful role model of the type of human being I strive to be. Thank you team Joanne (Go Team) for making us all feel seen and safe within that vulnerability.
As a effervescent misfit, feeling a part of something is rare, though I long for it. I cherished the moments in this community. I am in awe of the talent in this group and all that I read and wish I had more time to pour over every post. There is something quite miraculous about this collective energy. I feel we all lift each other and that feels remarkable.
I realize the art of writing is my pathway to happiness.
I found love within myself and in that my sparkle shines again.
Thank you, thank you, thank you!!!!” – BethBeth
“Joanne, as the 7 Day Writing Challenge officially comes to a close, I just wanted to take a moment in appreciation of what you created here. This community has been a safe, cathartic, exploratory space for the last week, and the self-confidence that has been ignited in the members is evident and awe-inspiring. Because of your dedication to the discipline of writing, and your careful selection of the incredible team who has contributed so greatly to keeping this journey seamless, I have evolved and watched others grow in ways I could never have anticipated. I have witnessed memory and empathy, passion and surrender, epiphany and transformation quicken the gathered writers on this forum into more than we were before we arrived.
Thank you for your ability to nurture creativity and to cultivate dreams while maintaining your integrity as a trustworthy mentor and guide. Thank you for your unfailing encouragement and for your personal commitment to read as many posts as you were able while also responding with thoughtful feedback. Thank you for gathering a group of like-minded, invested individuals to act as guardians for this group by answering our queries, solving our problems, and soothing our souls. And above all, thank you for championing the telling of stories – you are a true visionary, and I genuinely believe that through this work you are making the word a better place.” – JenniferJennifer
